Trends in 2022

Metaverse? Automation? Softskills? Better employee benefits? The business world is different from what it used to be. Get ready to stay updated and succeed in the new year and all to come.

The year’s still ongoing, but we want to highlight what has created the most transformation in the tech industry and all businesses.

Culture with a soul

People build their capacities by acknowledging feelings, insecurities, and how much energy is given to work now, not just what their CV says. By acknowledging that, you create in your business value.

The growth work culture promotes that employees should constantly develop and evolve. This culture benefits the employee and the company by turning values into strengths, enhancing outcomes, and improving reputation. The results will be fueled by the motivation of personal success and growth.

Don’t hesitate! Many companies deal with hundreds of staff members or didn’t initially create a work culture that nurtures this idea. And sometimes they might think it is a little bit ahead to start.

Empowerment can come at any time during your business’s lifetime.

The ability to understand and share the feelings of another is more important than ever in business. Empathy allows firms to build trusting relationships with their community and customers.

Empathy

Empathy can be the foundation for success. Leaders who develop empathy with their teams can better understand their needs and adjust their leadership style accordingly. This empathy can create a thriving work culture that attracts and retains top talent.

Customers who feel empathy from a business are more likely to trust and be loyal to the company. Empathy can be a distinguishing factor for businesses looking to succeed in today’s competitive marketplace.

Hybrid work

It’s not working at home anymore; it’s working. People don’t want to return to the office.

A work arrangement has become prevalent, if not a deal breaker. In recent years, thanks to the experience of pandemic times, people are cherishing time more than ever. This hybrid type of work gives flexibility, cost cut, and much more freedom (this is mainly people not wanting to give up sweatpants- and leaving their pets).

Be sure to make the hybrid or fully remote work implementation that fits best your business.

The IoT has been more than a buzzword in 2022, and companies got on board. Businesses have invested in automation to provide secure effectiveness among devices,  people, and apps while balancing security needs with new data collection and analysis opportunities.

We’ve seen automation in all types of areas in different industries, and definitely becoming an asset for evolution and creativity to stand out.

It’s only the beginning of a digital transformation era.

Entering the era of digital transformation

2023 is going to be an exciting year for digital transformation. We will see the continuation of innovations and developments in transformative technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), the internet of things (IoT), virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR), cloud computing, blockchain, and super-fast network protocols like 5G. Moreover, these transformational digital technologies do not exist in isolation, and we will see the boundaries between them blurring.

To prepare for this, businesses must ensure they embed the right technology throughout their processes and operations.

At this point, there is very little excuse for being in business and not understanding how AI and the other technologies mentioned above will impact your company and industry. With that said, digital transformation is about technology and people and how they work together.

So businesses must also focus on developing the soft skills required to support digital transformation, such as collaboration, digital literacy, adaptability, creativity, etc. Only by doing both – investing in the right technology AND developing the right people skills – will businesses succeed in the digital world of 2023 and beyond.

What's coming in the future

From 2022 to 2023, the changes may not be what we would think a decade ago. Yes, some cars are in the works to fly, people have tickets to go to the moon, and NASA did hit an asteroid (and decided to tell us afterward!). Yet, businesses need to pay more attention to human connection and how we interact with technology.

Adding qualities we might not consider critical to business, like caring and compassion, will be crucial. The skills that will be most in demand in 2023 include creativity, critical thinking, interpersonal communication, and leadership.

We already see it, 2022 has been filled with business ‘changes` like the Great Resignation and Quiet Quitting, all thanks to neglecting a human-business connection.

Enhanced customer experience

In 2023, customer experience is King. Quality and cost will always be necessary, but they’ll take a backseat to how you feel about your customer or client during and after the purchase process. Technology will continue to play a crucial role in making life easier for consumers, but the real game-changers will be immersive and interactive experiences that create connection.

Here are a few ways businesses can create these delights and engage customer experiences:

1. Make it personal: In a world of ever-growing data, businesses have unprecedented access to information about their customers. Use this data to your advantage by creating personalized experiences that address customers’ individual needs and preferences.

2. Think beyond the transaction: The goal of every business should be to create lifelong customers, not just one-time buyers. To do this, you need to create an experience that goes above and beyond the initial purchase. Follow up after purchase or connection, thank them for their business, and – most importantly – ask for feedback so you can continue to improve their experience.

3. Keep it simple: We’re constantly bombarded with choices, and simplifying the customer experience can be a breath of fresh air. Streamline your processes and communications, offer clear and concise instructions, and make it easy for customers to find what they’re looking for – both online and in-store.

4. Be human:  At the end of the day, we’re all human beings craving connection. No matter how big or small your business is, make sure your customer experience is built on a foundation of human connection.

This means being responsive to customer inquiries, offering helpful advice and support, and – perhaps most importantly – showing empathy (as we learned) when things go wrong.

Creating these connections will help turn first-time buyers into lifelong customers loyal to your brand.

Talent mind shift

We’re in the midst of a talent shift. We’ve seen many people change their career paths in the past year as they weigh the pros and cons of work-life balance. This has put pressure on employers to offer more quality work culture and benefits that make a difference for the professional.

In 2023, offering fulfilling work, ongoing opportunities to grow and learn, flexibility, and diverse, value-oriented workplaces will be essential for talent retention.

On top of that, the accelerated digital transformation leads to more workplace automation that will augment almost every job globally.

Humans will increasingly share their work with intelligent machines and smart robots. As a result, talent will be even more critical in 2023 as businesses strive to maintain a competitive edge. Those organizations that can attract and retain the best talent will be well-positioned for success in the years to come.

Inflation care and sustainability

To stay afloat in the years to come, businesses have to prioritize sustainability in any way they can.

As the world wakes up to the fact that the climate disaster will pose a much more significant challenge than anything we have experienced in recent decades. Investors and consumers are increasingly looking for businesses with the right environmental and social credentials.

Trends are driven by conscious consumers who prioritize ecological impact and sustainability when choosing who to buy from or do business with.

In such uncertain times, companies need to do everything they can to improve their resilience. Sustainability will be vital to weathering the storm.

If you snooze, you lose. Time to innovate!

According to a report from Snow Software, CIOs worldwide have put driving innovation for competitive advantage as No. 5 on their list of 12 top priorities for 2022. The information surveyed over 1,000 CIOs from 28 countries.

Ravi Naik, CIO and executive vice president of storage services for Seagate Technology, put innovation even higher on his list of 2022 goals.

“Scaling is about doing more efficiently and cleanly to reinvest resources into the organization. When innovation is unleashed, we can unlock the value stuck in inefficiencies and allow that value to be reinvested into the company. CIOs cannot do that by themselves, and it’s a behavior that needs to be institutionalized. I encourage the entire IT organization to take on that mindset.”

You may feel like everything has already been invented, but only some things have been perfected. You can always try to innovate and improve upon what exists.

With the knowledge of these trends in 2022, and 2023, you can finish this year strong and start even stronger. Give your business a check-up and adapt to thrive!
